Make 2025 Your Year to Thrive: Prioritizing Well-Being and Self-Care

Updated: Jan 9

By: Kim Brooks

As we welcome in 2025, it’s the perfect time to focus on well-being and self-care. For many, this means setting intentions and adopting practices that create balance, joy, and fulfillment.

This year, I’m embracing a word of the year- spaciousness.

For me, spaciousness means creating space in my body, in my mind, on my calendar, and in my physical surroundings.

I want more space to learn, to be creative, to travel, to be spontaneous, to move my body, and to do more of what brings me peace and joy.

I want to feel lighter in my body- less brain fog, tension, and inflammation.

I want less mental and physical clutter.

Let’s kick new year's resolutions that don’t stick to the curb.

Ask yourself, "How do I want to feel this year?"

Choosing a word of the year can help you stay grounded and aligned with your goals and vision.

What word resonates the most with you for 2025?

  • 0%spaciousness

  • 0%presence

  • 0%calm

  • 0%adventure

Read on to explore how you can prioritize your well-being and self-care this year, with tips, insights, and a few resources to guide you along the way.

#1 Tip: Give yourself grace and compassion.

#2  Tip: Make small shifts and upgrades to your daily routine. Choose one focus for a few weeks and then re-evaluate if you want to continue with that habit or practice or try something new.

Seven Types of Self-Care:

Well-being isn’t one-size-fits-all; it encompasses different areas of our lives. Here are seven types of self-care to focus on in 2025:

  1. Physical: Move your body in ways that feel good—whether it’s yoga, walking, or dance.

  2. Emotional: Journaling, therapy, and connecting with supportive, uplifting people who help nurture emotional health.

  3. Social: Make time to connect with loved ones and build meaningful relationships. Join online groups, or in-person groups, or attend workshops and activities that interest you.

  4. Spiritual: Meditate, reflect, or explore practices that deepen your connection to your inner self, God, angels, the universe, source, or whatever aligns with what your spiritual practice looks like.

  5. Mental: Discern how much learning/consuming you are taking in, develop a growth mindset, solve problems, and reduce your mental chatter.

  6. Professional: Set boundaries, delegate tasks, and schedule breaks to maintain balance.

  7. Environmental: Create a space that meets you and your family’s needs, whether it’s a space to find peace, a space to create, a space to gather, or a space that inspires you.

The Power of Journaling:

One of the simplest ways to enhance emotional awareness and mental clarity is journaling. Research by Pennebaker and Beall (1986) shows that expressive writing improves psychological well-being by helping individuals process emotions and reduce stress. Journaling also boosts self-awareness, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

Rest, The Foundation of Well-Being:

“Rest is not idle. It’s the foundation for the energy and creativity we need to thrive.” — Dr. Sandra Dalton

In a world that glorifies busyness, rest is a revolutionary act of self-care. Lack of rest affects our health, mood, and ability to perform.

To prioritize rest:

  • schedule regular downtime for meditation, breathwork, or walking in nature

  • practice restorative yoga

  • take short naps or just rest your body while reading or journaling

  • book a private Energy Reset session with me

Small changes can make a big difference in your energy levels and overall well-being.

3 Well-being Tips for Traveling:

As a travel enthusiast, and as someone preparing to travel to Brazil for a few weeks, I know the importance of staying grounded and healthy while traveling. If you're here in the Northeast region of the United States like me and leaving the cold weather behind, then here are a few tips to consider:

  1. Bring a water bottle for the plane and pack a small self-care kit with essentials like calming tea, lavender oil, noise-canceling headphones, and an eye mask.

  2. Don’t overpack your days or worry about seeing every inch of the city. Leave room for rest and spontaneity! Avoid needing a vacation from your vacation.

  3. Most of all, have fun!! Think about all the best-case scenarios. Don’t get lost down the what-if rabbit hole. Preparation is important, but less is more and all you really need is your passport and maybe your prescription medications.
